With Father's Day fast approaching, we turned to the world of tv & film to pick|
our favourite on-screen dads.
From Sandy Cohen's laid-back attitude to Liam Neeson's particular set of
skills - find out which fictional fathers made the cut:
Proving that dads really will do anything when it comes to protecting
their kids, Liam Neeson has officially raised the bar when it comes
to what we expect from our dads going forward.
“I will look for you, I will find you… and I will kill you."
A bodysuit, a wig and impeccable makeover skills from Uncle
Frank & Aunt Jack were all it took for Daniel Hillard to spend
more time with his kids by posing as the family’s new nanny.
“It was a run-by fruiting!"
Ultimately the coolest dad of the 00s (with the best eyebrows in
Orange County), The O.C.’s Sandy had us all dreaming of being
adopted into the Cohen family when we were being unruly teenagers.
“Well. I should be off.
Gotta find the next kid to jeopardize the community."
Immature, dim-witted alcoholic Peter Griffin is definitely not an
ideal role model. However, no matter how many crazy things
he gets up to, he still manages to win over his wife & 3 kids.
“You can't be ugly and play hard to get, it doesn't work
that way. You're already hard to want!"
The King of wildly inappropriate conversations, Noah Levenstein
goes above and beyond to try and understand the mind of his
teenage son (as well as imparting some strange wisdom along the way).
“We’ll just tell your mother that... we ate it all."
Tough but caring and protective of his family, we all wished we
had an uncle like Phil Banks growing up. Even if that meant we
had to put up with an annoying yuppie cousin like Carlton.
“I’m not getting older, I’m just getting better."
When faced with the tragic news that you won’t be around to
see your kids grow up, what do you do? Become the meth king
of Albuquerque to raise some serious cash for their future,
“I did it for me… I liked it. And I was good at it."
Known for his undying love of beer & doughnuts, Homer Simpson
is one of the most famous TV dads on our list. Although he
sometimes leads his kids astray, his heart’s always in the right place.
“Just once I'd like someone to call me 'Sir' without adding
'You're making a scene’."
Although Alexis has to sometimes play the parent to her “cool
dad" Rick Castle, they’ve definitely got the best father/daughter
relationship on screen. Who else’s dad encourages them to play
laser tag in the house?!
“I really am ruggedly handsome, aren’t I?"
In one of the biggest twists in film history, Darth Vader is
revealed to be the dad of Luke Skywalker. Just don’t go to him
for fatherly advice unless you want to return one hand lighter. . .
“No, I am your father!"
How could we forget about Marlin, the little clownfish from the
reef who makes swims all way to the Sydney harbour to find
P.Sherman who kidnapped his son, Nemo.
“If this is some kind of joke, it's not funny!
And I know funny! I'm a clownfish!!"
As much as he’s a big kid at heart, family man Phil Dunphy is one
of the best dads currently on tv. Fun and a bit goofy with a
laid-back attitude, Phil’s doing parenting RIGHT.
“When life gives you lemonade, make lemons.
Life will be all like ‘whaaaaat’!"
So he’s not winning any ‘father of the year’ awards any time
soon, but life on the Chatsworth Estate just wouldn’t be the
same without deadbeat dad Frank Gallagher.
A paranoid, strict control freak with an instant dislike for the guy
his daughter brings home to meet him – Jack Byrnes is definitely
the psycho father-in-law you want to avoid IRL.
“I have nipples, Greg. Could you milk me?"
He spends far too much time obsessing over his job and sees
his kids as a bit of an annoyance. As far as lousy dads go,
Stan’s definitely up there, but throughout the show we do get a
glimpse of his sensitive side.
“Forget it Francine, we already have something girly
and annoying in this house... It's called Roger."
You've still got time to find the perfect Father's Day gift!
