Entertainment Guide for 2015

2015 is officially here! Can you believe it??
A new year traditionally means a ‘new start’ where we all like to pretend we’ll hit the gym every night after work, we’ll definitely wear all the things we’ve just bought on sale and we’ll really really try to resist the temptation of drinking on weeknights. Although if you’re anything like us it’ll get to mid-Feb and you’ll be dreaming of a Friday night to binge watch your favourite TV shows whilst nursing a JD & Coke and a well deserved Domino’s.

Along with making way in your wardrobe for all your January sale buys, it’s time to clear some space on your TV planner & phone for this year’s most highly anticipated entertainment. We’ve had a look at the year ahead and selected our top 4 movies, TV shows and artists to look out for in 2015.

Clockwise from top left: James Bay, Royal Blood, Rae Morris, JUNGLE.

James Bay, a 24 year old singer-songwriter from Hertfordshire & Critics Choice 2015 by the Brit Awards panel, brings a new wave of modernised country twangs with his debut album this year. Look out for his latest track ‘Hold Back the River’ and some exciting UK tour dates for next year.

Royal Blood, our favourite noisy 2 piece from Brighton, have had us rocking out since the release of their debut single ‘Out of the Black’ in 2013. After a busy year of festival appearances & supporting Arctic Monkeys at Finsbury Park, the boys are set to join Foo Fighters on selected dates of their UK & USA tours this year.

Rae Morris, whose charming vocals you may recognise from Bombay Bicycle Club’s ‘Luna’, is by far one of our favourite artists to watch this year. Inspired by the likes of PJ Harvey, Kate Bush & Feist, stay tuned for Rae’s forthcoming debut album ‘Unguarded’.

After the release of their first album in 2014, JUNGLE continue to impress us with their psychedelic percussion & funky 70s inspired vibes. Their single ‘Busy Earnin’ can be heard in FIFA 15 & Forza Horizon 2 and is the main theme of Tales from the Borderlands.

Clockwise from top left: The Walking Dead, Better Call Saul,
The Flash, Thunderbirds are Go!

The Walking Dead Season 5 returns to our screens this year after its mid-season break. With the promise of a “much darker and emotionally heavy" second half to the series, and a huge change of situation for Rick & co, we can’t wait to see what storylines are ahead for the gang.

Vince Gilligan’s Breaking Bad spin-off Better Call Saul finally arrives on-screen this year. The series focuses on shady Saul Goodman’s past, 6 years before he met Walter White & Jessie, where he goes by the name of Jimmy McGill – "a small-time lawyer searching for his destiny, and, more immediately, hustling to make ends meet."

A revival of one of our favourite Childhood superheroes, The Flash is the latest comic book show from the creators of Arrow. The series shows us how scientist & CSI Investigator Barry Allen acquires super fast speed through a freak accident of being struck by lightening.

Thunderbirds are Go! is a remake of the hit 60s TV series and is due to hit our screens this Spring! Instead of puppets, the latest version of the cult classic will be made using CGI & live action model sets. Look out for the voices of Rosamund Pike, Thomas Brodie-Sangster & Kayvan Novak.

Clockwise from top left: Furious7, Birdman, Taken 3, Big Hero 6

Furious 7 is the next high octane instalment of the iconic Fast & Furious series and the sequel to 2013’s Fast & Furious 6. Marking the final film appearance of the late Paul Walker, we can’t help but wonder how we’ll be saying goodbye to Brian O’Connor in the upcoming blockbuster.

Birdman follows washed up actor Riggan Thomson who once played cinema superhero ‘Birdman’, try and reinvent his once prosperous career by writing, directing and starring in a Broadway show. With an all star cast including Michael Keaton, Zach Galifianakis, Edward Norton & Emma Stone, make sure you catch this one on the big screen.

2015 marks the end of an era, the third and final adrenaline fuelled instalment of the Taken series. Taken 3 sees Liam Neeson use his particular set of skills to do what he does best when he is framed for the murder of his ex wife Lenore.

Big Hero 6 is the latest action packed animated comedy from Walt Disney. The movie shows 14 year old robotics genius Hiro along with his closest companion, an inflatable robot called Baymax, and his friends work together to solve a mystery on the streets of hometown San Fransokyo.
